The GEM is a richly flavored, beautiful avocado; the ripe fruit is black, but spangled with a constellation of bright yellow-green freckles. The compact, easily contained tree tends to bear heavily, often in large clusters, like avocado-sized grapes. GEM fruits often hang in the tree’s interior, which can shield the fruit from sunburn when growing in very hot areas. UC Riverside researchers are exploring the potential of the tree for cultivation in California’s sweltering Central Valley.
Our GEM tree is eager to produce. The fruit is creamy and dense with a nutty flavor and an appealingly vibrant layer of dark green just under the skin. We feel like pigmentation is an indication of flavor and nutritional content.
The GEM tree is small to medium sized and spreading.
We will begin selling trees for the season in spring 2026; to reserve a tree contact us through the order form and we will add you to our waiting list.
Trees are approximately 2.5 to 3 feet tall (measured from the top of the root ball) and sell for $50 each cash, check or Venmo/Zelle, or by credit card or PayPal with an additional 3% convenience fee.
All trees are sold in a 5″x12″tree pot.
