Queen Avocado

This queen of avocados owes its name to both size and flavor. Simply said, the 20 to 30 ounce pear shaped fruit contains a very small seed and flesh rated as excellent. At a recently held avocado tasting in Santa Cruz, California, when the Queen was halved and held up to the audience for display, the result was first a long hush and then wild applause. And well deserved: the avocado was both enormous and delicious.
The Queen avocado was discovered near Antigua, Guatemala and brought to southern California in 1914. This “B” type avocado grows on a very large spreading tree and ripens in southern California starting in July, hanging at least until Christmas. In our area (Watsonville, California),the Queen does not start to ripen until October. The skin is rough and medium thick, surrounding flesh with an oil content of almost 14%. The Queen will give a party’s worth of high quality guacamole in every fruit.
To quote from the California Avocado Society 1928 Yearbook: “A grand fruit: pleases everyone who ever cuts in under its rough exterior, and beholds its beautiful interior.”

Sold out for spring 2023. We will have a few Queen trees available this summer; contact us if you are interested.

Trees are approximately 3 feet tall and sell for $45 each cash or check or Venmo, or $47 via credit card or PayPal. All trees are sold in a poly grow sleeve that is roughly equivalent to a #2 pot.
